Quick Easy Money Making Websites
The problem with building money making websites is the uncertainty.
Uncertainty surrounds the type of site you build, the niche, the content, the traffic generation methods and of course, the big question:
How do we make money?
In the past, it was easy to build money making websites. Just a few years ago you could register a relevant domain name, throw up some content, get indexed by Google and start making Adsense money that same month. You may have built some of these sites yourself. There weren’t nearly as many websites and even fewer webmasters that knew their stuff.
Not anymore . . .
According to the web analysts at netcraft.com the number of websites in August of 2007 was 120 Million. Two years later in August of 2009 that number had doubled all the way to 240 million. Now if that isn’t enough bad news to those wanting to build money making websites, the blog experts at Technorati.com report there are an estimated 120,000 new blogs being built each day!
How is that for competition?
About now, I can hear you saying, “But I’m going to build in a niche where there is no competition.” The problem with this idea, is the internet hates a vacuum and so even the smallest money making niche has lots of competition.
Don’t believe it? Do a Google search for knitting a scarf. You can see that there are approximately 2.3 million competing pages for this obscure term, so if you to sell an ebook that teaches people to knit scarves, you will have to find a way to beat out more than 2 million other sites to get noticed.
I think we can agree this isn’t going to be easy, but search engine traffic isn’t our only option.
Let’s move to Plan B – buying traffic with Adwords. If we go to the Google External Keyword Tool and do a search for knitting a scarf, we can see there are only 2 terms that generate a significant number of searches.
‘knitting a scarf’ and ‘knit a scarf’ get some traffic but the average cost per click is 41 cents and 62 cents respectively. This high cost per click means that with a 1.5 % conversion rate, selling a $10.00 ebook you’ll lose $26.00 and $47.00 with each 100 clicks. In other words, with even the best ebook . . .
we’ll always lose money!
I’ve done this. I didn’t enjoy it. However, I did learn from the experience. Here is what I learned:
No Traffic = No Money
Too Much Competition = No Traffic = No Money
Expensive Adwords = No Money
At this point, I think we can agree, with all the competition out there – we need an edge. We need to eliminate the uncertainty about building websites. Let’s stand back and think logically for a moment. This is not the time to reinvent the wheel – this is the time to copy success.
In an ideal world, instead of starting from scratch, we would find information about successful sites, copy those sites and then duplicate their success. We would spy on successful money making sites to figure out exactly how they succeed. In other words,
